Irene Cruz joined the KYMA news team in October 2013. Born in the Chicago suburbs and raised in Orange County's Irvine, California, Irene first sparked an interest in news through a childhood cartoon: The New Adventures of Superman. From then on, she wanted to be Lois Lane, taking on the ideals of truth and the public's right to know!
In three years, she earned her Bachelor's in Literary Journalism at the University of California, Irvine. While attending college, Irene had the privilege of interning at KNSD-TV the NBC station in San Diego, and WBBM-TV, the CBS station in Chicago. There, she was able to learn about the reporting world.
She is extremely excited to serve the people of the Southwest and hopes to help out her new Yuma family as much as she can! In her free time Irene most likely has her nose stuck in a fantasy novel or a comic book. But she also enjoys baking, singing, playing piano, cha-cha and salsa dancing, and laughing with her friends until her stomach hurts. And let’s not forget…she’s probably missing her mom’s Filipino home cooking!
Irene absolutely loves hearing any questions, comments or story ideas! So don’t hesitate to shoot her an email at: ICruz@KYMA.com
