Luis Cruz returned to KYMA in February of 2012 to be the News Director here for the third time.

Luis has previously been News Director at KYMA from 2004-2006 and then again from 2008-2011.  He left the station in 2011 to be a reporter and fill-in anchor in San Diego, but says he missed management and mentoring young journalists.  Luis says he’s excited to return to the number one rated television news station in the Desert Southwest!

Luis is an award-winning journalist with more than 18 years of television broadcasting experience.  In 2011, the Associated Press Television Radio Association honored the KYMA News Team with 3 Mark Twain Awards for their work in 2010.  Those honors included Best Coverage of an Ongoing Story, Best Sports Reporting and Best Videography of Sports.

Luis began his broadcasting career in 1993 when he was hired to co-host a teen talk show at KGO-TV in San Francisco.  Luis has been a reporter and an anchor for various stations in Arizona, California and Nevada.  The stations include KGTV in San Diego, CA, KVBC-TV in Las Vegas, Nevada, KFSN-TV and KSEE-TV in Fresno, CA, KION-TV in Salinas, CA and KNVN-TV in Chico, CA.

Luis earned his B.A. Degree in Political Science from U.C. Berkeley.  Luis is a lifetime member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, as well as a life member of the California Alumni Association.  When not hard at work, Luis enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with his family in Mexico and the San Francisco Bay Area.
