Nico joined the KYMA News 11 team in April of 2013. Born and raised San Diego, he previously worked as a news writer and assignment editor for the local news station, KUSI TV.
Nico says his love of journalism found him when he first interned at The San Diego Union-Tribune and the Spanish-language newspaper, Enlace, in 2008.
He finished his undergraduate coursework at San Francisco State University, earning a bachelor's degree in communication studies in 2011.
During that time, he had the opportunity to intern at the Bay Area's CBS affiliate, KPIX, working in the newsroom with the news planning editor. He was also a production assistant for San Francisco's long-time community affairs talk show, Bay Sunday.
He loves to travel and to try new food; you'll almost always find him eating. On his days off, Nico enjoys catching up with his friends and family. His other passions include drawing, painting, or playing the doumbek (a Middle-Eastern percussion instrument).
He says it is a privilege to work for the people of Yuma and Imperial County sharing the stories that matter to them. Nico loves getting feedback from anyone willing to share. Feel free to email him at firstname.lastname@example.org with comments or story ideas anytime.
