Alexander Cheney joined the KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 News Team in June of 2017. Alex is excited to share your story!
Alex came to the Coachella Valley after spending two years as a news anchor, producer and reporter in Yuma, Arizona for sister station KYMA. Born and raised in Orange County, Alex is grateful to be back in his home state and doing what he loves, broadcasting!
He graduated from the Manship School at Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!) in 2015 with his Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism. While attending LSU, Alex served as Sports Director for the campus television station, Tiger TV. He also worked alongside KESQ's Cody Krupp.
He interned in studio directing with ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut in 2014. While not only satisfying a childhood dream, Alex also learned many skills that he still uses today.
His interest in weather started in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina struck Southeastern Louisiana. Alex's uncle was a professor at LSU and Alex often checked the local weather forecasts to make sure his family was safe.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys running, hiking, surfing, and is ready for any pick-up basketball game. His favorite sports teams include: the Lakers, Angels, Ducks, Saints, and of course, the LSU Tigers.
Alex would love to hear from you! You can send constructive criticism, funny jokes, not funny jokes, story ideas, weather pictures/video (or really anything you think would be great on-air) to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can keep up with Alex on Facebook and follow his reports on Twitter.
