Blake Keller joined the 13 On Your Side KSWT news team in June 2017. You can now catch Blake co-anchoring KYMA Sunrise weekdays at 6 and 7 a.m. in Yuma, Arizona.
Blake has been able to cover stories from all over the spectrum — including crime, agriculture, border issues, and feature profiles, including a man with Parkinson’s who walked across America and made a stop in Yuma. He has a passion for crime reporting, uncovering facts and details. “I feel such a rush when on an active scene, talking to those affected and confirming information with police and making sure to get that information to communities who might be impacted.”
Blake comes to the Desert Southwest from the Metro Detroit area. Blake moved from Michigan to Chicago to attend Loyola University Chicago to pursue his passion in news. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Management.
During his stay in Chicago, Blake and his news team for Loyola’s student newscast, “Loyola News Chicago”, won a regional Crystal Pillar award (the Emmy equivalent for students) for “Outstanding Student Newscast”. He has worked as an Executive Producer for his school’s student-run sports newscast, Rambler Sports Locker. In addition, Blake interned with the NBC 5 Morning News team, working with producers, traffic, reporters, and anchors. He assisted on stories including national coverage of the Orlando Pulse shooting, the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the 2016 Presidential Election.
Though accustomed to freezing cold weather conditions, Blake is excited to embrace the desert heat and explore the West Coast. “I’ve never been to the West Coast and I’m excited to embrace the Yuma community, as well as explore Mexico, Phoenix, and San Diego.”
When Blake isn’t editing video or talking to people, he is attending concerts and music festivals, playing with his sweet Terrier Mix, or trying new places/taco shops to eat! “Send me some of your favorite restaurants. I’m a picky eater but I love exploring new places!”
