YUMA, Ariz. - There have been a recent string of ongoing phone scams within the community in Yuma County. In recent days, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received calls in reference to an IRS scam. According to authorities, the person on the phone will act as a police officer or as an IRS agent who demands payment for overdue taxes. Adding that if they are not paid immediately, you will be arrested. They’ll want the money either wired or put on a prepaid card. Other scams that have been prevalent in the community, either have to do with an apparent "relative" needing financial assistance or a person from a local "utility company" saying that if you don't pay your bill immediately, your power will be shut off.
