Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma Art Center is hosting their annual "Art Smart Camp" giving the youth in our community a chance to expand their imagination through art. The first day of camp is today and ends this Friday, June 9th.
For the next three days, campers will get to use paint, dance, mixed media and sculpture to understand the visual arts relating to history and cultures in today's society. Camp Instructors says it gives a chance for kids to not only learn something new, but to stay active and to keep cool away from the heat.
Cindy Jaramillo is teaching her students a form of sensory art. "I just really enjoy it. Every year I get a new batch of students, which is about fifty kids, which is really nice. It's a beautiful piece of art and people want to see art."
Sculpting, dancing, and creating whatever their imagination takes them. Dance Instructor Kasey Reyes says these kind of activities give kids something to do.
"It expands their movements, their way of expressions, and to show off how they feel."
