YUMA, Ariz. - Blood donations are in high demand across the country. Here's an opportunity for Yuma residents to donate blood to those in need of blood supply in the Yuma area.
Yuma High School is sponsoring a blood drive Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. You can schedule an appointment online at bloodhero.com or simply walk in any time between those hours. The blood drive is in the school gymnasium.
Since July, there has been a severe decrease in blood donations in the United States. Most of all the blood donated in Yuma at this drive will stay in Yuma for those in need.
Before heading to a blood drive it is important to eat a hardy meal. Plenty of protein, iron rich foods and anything with salt can help prevent dizziness or fainting after blood is drawn. According to donor services specialist and phlebotomist, Patty Styers, it is also very important to be fully hydrated before coming in.
Once you come to the blood drive at Yuma High School you will automatically be entered to win a new 2017 VW Passat R-line, courtesy of the Valley VW dealers.
The more blood donated, the more lives can be saved.
