Fire crews respond to structure fire near Downtown Yuma

Abandoned house caught fire in...

Yuma, Ariz. - The Yuma Fire Department is still investigating a fire at an abandoned home on Main Street in Downtown Yuma.

The fire was reported just before 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 Block of Main St. When Firefighters arrived they realized the fire was actually in the 400 Block of Main St. They saw heavy smoke coming from the residence of the two-story home. Both stories were on fire, with firefighters describing flames coming through the roof of the building.

YFD said firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the fire, and they remained on scene through the night to battle hot spots and flare-ups.

The residence, believed to have been built in 1900, was a total loss. No injuries were reported.

The building was vacant, but YFD said trespassers had recently been removed from the property.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

YFD wants to remind the community that if you see anything suspicious at a vacant home or lot, or people acting like they are trying to hide from plain views, please call your local law enforcement.
