Who knew gassing up at the pump could refuel your community's education.
The Fuel Your School Program is a collaboration with Chevron and Donorchoose.org to help fund classroom projects in select cities across the nation. During October 2016, nearly six million dollars was raised nationwide with $1 being donated for every eight gallons purchased at the pump. It all pays off because Yuma County schools will be receiving $100,000 to help with supplies, books, and technology in classrooms.
"They make a difference not just in the teacher's life by being able to give us materials that we need," said Carina Wilhite, a teacher from HLS Elementary. "Just being able to see them get excited about the new material, not just the newness of it, but being able to find projects that we otherwise would not be able to bring in our classrooms, it's just the best feeling."
