Gila Ridge teacher wins Kidd Kraddick Morning Show contest

YUMA, Ariz. - Tricia Severs, Gila Ridge High School's Special Education and Life Skills teacher, was selected as one of the winners of the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show "Teacher... What Do You Need?" contest sponsored by G2 Gel Pens.

A clerk in the department, Susan Brown, nominated Severs by sending a letter to show producers explaining that Severs regularly takes her classes on field trips to Wal-Mart where she buys groceries for their culinary courses with own money.

Severs won a class set of Pilot Pens, which sponsors the contest, as well as a $1,000 Visa Gift Card she can use to purchase other items needed for her Life Skills cooking class.

“I plan on using the G2 Gel Pilot Pens as a life skill, the students will match the caps to the correct pen color, while the gift card will be used for us to watch The Nutcracker as a class,” Severs said. “We will continue to do our shopping at Wal-Mart where we will purchase groceries for our cooking class to continue to grow and learn new functional life skills.”

Severs is in her third teaching year at GRHS and was part of the Arizona State Wide Autism Project last year.

"Tricia Severs is an outstanding teacher who puts forth tremendous effort and energy into every lesson,” said Derek Bosch, GRHS Assistant Principal. “Tricia is well respected by her peers, but more importantly she is loved by her students. It's incredible to see the impact she has on her students every day."

The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show is an ensemble, nationally syndicated radio show. It airs weekdays beginning at 5 a.m. on 93.1 FM in Yuma.
