The Humane Society of Yuma is making progress by having more animals find new homes.
As of Thursday morning, HSOY is celebrating a rare moment of an empty kennel building. It's a milestone they haven't seen in over a year. Currently, there are about 50 dog kennels and are hoping to see more spaces open up with the winter visitors making their return in the next couple months.
"To empty out a shelter through a return to owners, returning animals to families, adoptions, and sending them to rescue," said Lana Shapiro of the Humane Society of Yuma. "That's a huge deal when the outflow is more than the influx."
As of now, it's looking good for dogs but adopting cats is still needing some help in finding new homes. If you would like more information on adopting or fostering future animals, contact the Humane Society of Yuma for any questions you might have.
