EL CENTRO, Calif. - Imperial Irrigation District Director Juanita Salas is hosting a town hall meeting open to the public. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening and according to Salas, it’s something that hasn't been done for over 100 years.
News 11 was able to speak to the Division I Director and brings us more. The meeting will take place at the Chamber of Commerce in El Centro starting at 5:30 p.m.
Salas, calling this a rare opportunity for a meeting of this sort has not been conducted in over 100 years.
“I said to myself, why not? I’m the new board member, it’s time for new opportunities to be taken advantage of, and let's go ahead and engage the public as they always should be,” explained Salas.
The Division I Director also mentioned that this will be the first of many meetings to come.
“This is not a one-time thing, my goal is to have one in the fall and to have one in the spring in the three cities that I specifically represent,” said Salas.
Those cities include El Centro, the south part of Brawley and all of Westmorland.
Salas plans on hosting town hall meetings at least twice a year, not only to hear concerns but to educate the public about available programs.
“We had these community conversations in people's living rooms and I thought why not utilize the ability to host a town hall and magnify this to a larger level, to have not only the organization as the IID take as a priority but also our community,” said Salas.
Salas and her team have been promoting this meeting for a month now and they are looking forward to engaging with the members of the public.
