Local man sent to emergency room after setting up Christmas decorations

Safety tips when decorating for the holidays

YUMA, Ariz. - Holidays are the most festive time of the year. During Christmas time there is anything from decorative cookies, to trees and houses.

This holiday season when you're putting up lights, make sure you follow these following safety tips provided by APS:

1. Make sure you turn off all holiday lights before going to sleep or leaving the house

2. When stringing lights outside, use a dry wooden or fiberglass ladder--and stay away from overhead power lines.

3. Use more than one circuit to avoid overloading household wiring. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for the number of light strings that can be connected safely.

 4. Consider using LED (light-emitting diode) holiday lights, which run much cooler than their traditional counterparts, are less of a fire risk and use much less energy.

We spoke to a local man who spent time at the emergency room while he was decorating his home for the holidays.

We will have a full insight of his experience and holiday safety at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m newscasts.
