YUMA, Ariz. - November 8th, 2017 proclaims the start of something new. From now on, every year, people around the nation will be able to call this day First Generation day.
At Arizona Western College, President Daniel Corr officially proclaimed this day in honor of all the students is their first in their families to go to college.
About 66 percent of their students are first generation, that is more than half. Programs like Trio, Upward Bound, CAMP, and Informatics are just some of the programs that help students achieve their goals on becoming a first-generation college student.
