The Imperial County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Thursday they have a sergeant at Westmorland Police Department acting as Interim Police Chief.
ICSO says the sergeant is only there on a temporary basis, overseeing the day-to-day duties of providing security to the community, while the city hires a new police chief.
We spoke to Sheriff Ray Loera and he explained to us the reasons for the sergeant being there, and for how long. He also talked about the current internal investigation going on at the department and how the sergeant fits into that investigation.
