YUMA, Ariz. - This week, select members of the Arizona Western College softball and women's soccer programs have made their declarations to move on to 4-year programs official.
The headline letter of intent signing was Yuma native and former Kofa Lady King Sally Gastelo, who will be taking her softball talents to the University of North Texas; a division 1 program out of Conference USA.
Gastelo transferred to AWC this year and has been one of the bright spots to the softball program this spring. The standout sophomore has 3 home runs, has scored 39 runs, has 30 RBI's, with a batting average of .348 and a hitting percentage of .511.
Meanwhile, her teammates Selena Silva, Karly Turner and Hailey Cookson have all signed on the dotted line to play at the newly established softball program at Ottawa University in Surprise, Arizona.
And coming off a historic finish in women's soccer, four members of the latest Lady Matadors squad are also moving on.
Yuma native and former Kofa standout Abigail Rosales has signed with Ottawa University in Kansas. Fellow homegrown talent and former Yuma Lady Criminal Daisy Rodriguez and Lady Mats goalkeeper Janet Reyes are both heading to the University of Antelope Valley in California. Last but not least, Lady Mats defender Asiah Greene has signed her letter of intent with Southwestern University in Kansas.
