IMPERIAL, Calif. - In the 2nd meeting between the Brawley Wildcats and the Imperial Tigers softball programs this season, it was apparent that the Imperial Valley League's two best teams were on the same field on Friday night.
Up to this point in the IVL season, both teams were unbeaten in league play. Each team dominating the other league teams they've faced so far.
Just like the Tiger's non-conference win over the Wildcats in the Cougar Classic two weeks ago, this primetime game would also be decided by a single run.
And just like the last meeting, this would be a pitcher's duel.
Imperial starting pitcher Anahi Grijalva and Brawley ace Aubrey Rueles would both dominate their opposing offenses most of the night; as each of them pitched a nearly flawless softball game, not allowing any runs to score in eight whole innings.
It wasn't until the 9th, when the Wildcats got just enough hits to bring across the night's only run to secure the 1-0 victory; becoming the IVL's only remaining league unbeaten.
The rematch between these two area powers will take place on May 2nd at Brawley high school.
