Central boys basketball defeats Southwest!

Spartans even city rivalry series with win

EL CENTRO, Calif. - As the regular season winds down in the Imperial Valley League, it's still anybody's guess who is going to take the league title with only 3 games remaining.

Brawley, Calexico, Central and Southwest have proven the league to be balanced; as each team came into Friday night with a 2-2 league record.

In the 2nd part of the City of El Centro championship series, neither Central or Southwest could afford a loss; if either team still wanted to have the inside track on a run for the league title.

The Spartans looked like the better team in the 1st quarter, as they got off to a hot start (especially beyond the arc) running an 18-4 advantage by quarter's end.

Southwest's sluggish start would linger into a 28-12 deficit at the half, and even though they would quadruple their point output in the 2nd half, the Spartans would do enough to hold them off in the end.

Central's 59-53 win keeps them in a 2-team tie for 1st place with 2 games remaining.
