Gila Ridge girls tennis bows out of playoffs

Hawks denied 1st playoff win in program history

YUMA, Ariz. - In James Bogart's four seasons as the Gila Ridge girls tennis head coach, he's led the Hawks to many successes in the regular season; but not so much in the playoffs.

The Hawks have never won an overall team playoff match in the school's young history; losing the last two years under Bogart.

For a 2nd straight year, Ridge would get home court in the 1st round. This time as a 6th seed, taking on 11th seeded Seton Catholic.

The Sentinel's feature a top five combination in their #1 and #2 players, while the Hawks feature stronger depth at the lower seeded levels.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, the top heavy Sentinels would prove to be too much, as both Megan Cordery and Jessica Roth would go down in straight sets.

Even though #4 Nina Hook and #6 Katie Grombach came through with individual match wins, the Hawks would falter in every other match play in their 5-2 overall defeat.

The Hawks return four of six starters next season, but they lose #1 Cordery to graduation.
