YUMA, Ariz. - - Since the Cibola boys soccer team surprised arch-rival Gila Ridge with a victory at Veteran's Memorial Stadium back in mid-December, both teams have managed to stay unbeaten since that time.
Tuesday night's re-match would prove to be even more intense.
The Hawks controlled the pace of the match early, putting pressure on the Raiders defense early and often and breaking onto the scoreboard first, courtesy of a goal by Esteban Franco.
With about 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half, Cibola's Fabian Guerrero would even the score; putting in a long-distance shot that would give the Raiders the temporary momentum.
The 2nd half proved to be a defensive battle, as neither team was able to put another goal in until late in the contest; where the Hawk's Ian Meza punched in the game winner with only 1:42 remaining in regulation.
The 2-1 victory keeps the Hawks at 1 loss on the season and evens the regular season series between these 2 cross-town rivals.
