YUMA, Ariz. - Victory out of the jaws of defeat.
This would be the appropriate summary of latest victory of the 18th ranked AWC women's soccer team.
The Lady Matadors trailed by a single goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation, when former Yuma Catholic Shamrock Karen Melendrez punched in the game-tying goal with only 48 seconds left on the clock, taking this contest against Cochise into overtime.
In the overtime period, AWC would bring a barrage of attacks that would pay off in the 97th minute, when Lexi Zeyen delivered a ball that set up the header goal by Lady Mats leading scorer Christiana Boateng for the dramatic win.
The victory improves the Lady Mats conference and overall record of 5-1-3.
They will take a road trip to Pima this Thursday.
