Cibola boys soccer passes 1st round test!

YUMA, Ariz. - The Cibola boys soccer team enters it's second playoff under the Bryan Claudio coaching era, where the Raiders made it all the way to the semifinal round in last year's division 2 format.

In the newly formatted 6A tournament, the Raiders are ambitious for a deeper run this time around.

Even though they are coming into this 1st round playoff as the 3rd seed and going against a 14th seeded Pinnacle team at home; the match would prove to be one they would have to earn to move on to the 2nd round.

The 1st half proved to be back and forth, as both Cibola and Pinnacle each had their chances; putting pressure on the other team's opposing defense.

But a couple of events proved to decide the match in the 2nd half.

The 1st came when Raiders striker Gabriel Claudio was fouled in Pinnacle's box, which allowed him to capitalize with the penalty kick goal to give Cibola the 1-nil lead.

Later in the half, off a Gabriel Claudio throw-in, Enrique Zamora would put in the 2nd and final goal of the match: sending Cibola to the next round with a 2-nil win.

The Raiders will host 6th seeded Hamilton in the tournament quarterfinal round this Saturday at Raider Field. The match begins at 2pm MST.
