Wildcats going to the ship!

Brawley baseball clinches spot in D-3 title game

BRAWLEY, Calif. - Brawley Wildcats baseball is truly having a "dream season."

The Cats have secured a solid 22-6 overall season record and have won their 3rd consecutive Imperial Valley League title, with a record of 11-1 (only loss to Calexico).

Needless to say, Brawley has continued to click on all cylinders in the CIF-San Diego Section Division 3 Playoffs, going unbeaten into the semifinal round on Tuesday night.

They would get a "playoff rematch" against 6th seeded Sage Creek, whom they had previously beaten.

This time around, the win wouldn't come as easy.

The Wildcats got off a barrage of hits in the early goings, but didn't do too much damage to the Bobcats on the scoreboard; as freshman outfielder Jude Litrell scored Brawley's sole RBI in the 2nd inning.

This game would become a pitcher's duel, as Cats starting hurler Blake Zeleny would pitch a gem.

Zeleny would only give up a single hit, in a complete game shutout performance that would give Brawley the 1-0 win and clinch a birth to the Division 3 championship game for the Cats!

They'll play for the D-3 title this Friday at University of San Diego's Fowler Park. The opening pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
