Yuma Catholic boys soccer knocks off River Valley

Shamrocks get "blowout" 1st round playoff win!

YUMA, Ariz. - The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks boys soccer team is only 4 wins away from claiming an "unprecedented" 4 consecutive state title!

After Wednesday night's decisive 1st round win over River Valley in the 3A state tournament, the magic number is now down to "3."

The Rocks were in control from the very beginning, as YC kept the pressure on the Dust Devils for most of the night; scoring 4 goals in the 1st half to take the 4-nil lead into the break.

From there, the points would continue pouring in; as the Rocks completed the route with the 11-1 final score.

Ramon Urbano led all scorers with 4 on the night. Teammates Eleuterio Gutierrez and Ed Morales each scored a "hat trick" in the contest; while Ernie Gutierrez accounted for the other goal.

The Rocks will move on to the quarterfinal round and play host to NFL Yet Academy this Saturday at 2pm.

This is a rematch from a week ago and last year's state tournament title game; both won by Yuma Catholic.
