Yuma Catholic boys soccer pulls away from Southwest

Shamrocks win in 2nd half surge

YUMA, Ariz. - Defending 3A boys soccer state champion Yuma Catholic met it's toughest early season challenge, as the Southwest Eagles out of the Imperial Valley League opened up their season against them at Ricky Gwynn Stadium on Tuesday night.

The 1st half of the match was deadlocked, as both defensive units held the opposing offenses in check; keeping the match scoreless through halftime.

But, both offenses began applying more pressure in the opening minutes of the 2nd half; as both teams had scoring opportunities.

7 minutes into the 2nd half, Stockton Rush broke the ice for YC; as he scored a goal with a header off a corner kick to make it 1-nil.

The Rocks would then pour it on the rest of the way; as David Castanon, Junior Mendez and Ramon Urbano all scored successive goals to close out the Eagles.

YC's 4-nil win improves them to 3-0 overall and gives Southwest a loss in their season opener.
