Trailers destroyed in Salton Sea Beach fire

SALTON SEA BEACH, Calif. - Fire crews responded to a fire in Salton Sea Beach in Imperial County on Thursday morning.

Salton City Fire was on scene for the blaze. They said they got the call at about 7 a.m.

At least two structures have been destroyed and power poles were damaged according to our sister station KESQ. One home was occupied. The resident of that home along with his daughter and her husband, who lived next door, are all being assisted by the Red Cross. The other home was unoccupied.

The power was cut off while crews battled the blaze.

Firefighters said it takes some time to respond to fires in this part of the county, because the second closest fire department is the Westmorland Fire Department, and that is a volunteer crew.

Fire crews with Calipatria, Westmorland, and Brawley also assisted in battling the fire.

A fire last November destroyed three mobile homes in the community.
