Yuma Downtown gets a 'makeover' by world known artist

Momo Murals
Downtown Yuma is getting more creative by turning buildings into a masterpiece.

On Wednesday morning a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Yuma Art Center unveiled six murals by the artist Momo. Each piece is walking distance from each other and is behind either restaurants or in parking lots, where you wouldn't expect to see a creative piece.

The murals cost the City of Yuma no money and are funded by local agencies and by the McKivergan family, a local family who has a passion for the arts in Yuma.

"You're in the desert," said Momo. "This incredible sunlight all year around, I want to create other murals because it suits by aesthetic quite a bit." He adds on, "I love sun-saturated, full of the spectrum, and groups of color and here[Yuma], you can really see them in an outdoor setting."

Each piece is abstract with a range of colors and is in some type of motion which catches the eye. More murals are expected to come in either the downtown area or in Yuma County. The murals are the perfect 'selfie station' if you love art in unfamiliar places.
