Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot met with other sheriffs from Arizona to meet face to face with State Representative Martha McSally. On the agenda was the state's mounting issue with border security and what Arizona sheriff's need from Capitol Hill in order to do their jobs.
One of the issues brought to the table was the millions lost in housing illegal aliens, according to reports Representative McSally informed the sheriifs that she plans on returning to Washington and push to re-open a federal program, known as the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP). It provides federal funds to states and localities that have housed illegal immigrants in local jails.
Also on the agenda was illicit drugs which are smuggled in from Mexico. Along with Sheriff Wilmot, sheriffs from Cochise, Pima and Santa Cruz Counties participated in the meeting.
