It's a sea of green across the nation and here in the Desert Southwest... as we celebrate St. Patricks Day!

The festivities began this morning and will continue throughout the night -- but, police have a warning.

For many, St. Patricks Day is a day folks like to kick back, wear green, and have some beer.

Folks started celebrating early out at the Yuma Landing, with corned beef and cabbage. And, don't forget the green beer.

But, Yuma Police want to remind you to celebrate safely.

They'll be out in extra numbers patrolling the streets to make sure no one is driving drunk.

YPD says the "minimum punishment is one day in jail, 1470. Lock devise." You can also lose your license for a long time.

Police say it's o.k. to enjoy yourselves, but make sure to plan ahead. They say "plan ahead, utlize public transportation, cost of taxi less than the basic fine."

And, of course make sure to watch out for those leprechauns...
