A Tucson school superintendent is facing federal sex charges with minors.
Newschannel 11 has also learned that he has ties to schools in Yuma County. We caught up with the superintendent of the Somerton School District who worked with Albert Thomas Rogers.
Dr. Frank Reed says he was shocked to know that I worked with him, I never would've though he would do something like that.
Dr. Reed worked in the Somerton Elementary School District with the man accused of trying to arrange sex with a young boy in Mexico.
About 15 years ago, Dr. Reed was principal of Desert Sonora elementary while Mr. Rogers was principal of the old Somerton Middle School.
Dr. Reed says, "little did anyone suspect they may have been working with a potential sexual predator. Never did I suspect anything like this not at all."
Rogers records also show, he was a board member at Yuma Union High School District from 1993 to 1996.
Dr. Reed says before moving to Tucson, Rodgers was a superintendent at Gadsten Elementary School District in San Luis.
He continued his daily contact with children. But, nothing seemed suspicious. "He just seem like a normal educator really interest in the students well being."
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Rogers at the San Luis Port of Entry last Friday after an investigation revealed he may have been heading to Mexico to have sex with a 13 to 14 year old boy there. The crime doesn't fit Mr. Roger's image.
Now ICE agents and Tucson police are investigating this case.
The Gadsden Elementary School District and Yuma Union High School School District could not be reached for comment.
A status hearing for Roger's is scheduled for this Thursday.
