Investigators have two suspects in the shooting death of Cornelio Lopez Zendejas. Sgt. Joe Alvarez, with the Imperial County Sheriff's Office, says the first suspect is 26-year old Rudy Nickles Martinez.

The other suspect is Martinez's girlfriend, 32-year-old Marie June Kimberly Spears. Spears has brown hair, brown eyes, is 5'3" and weights 175 pounds.

Alvarez believes the two suspects have fled to Mexico, where Martinez has relatives. Investigators have not yet pinpointed where in Mexico the couple is.

Cornelio Lopez Zendejas was found dead in a 1995 white Nissan Maxima that Zendejas had recently purchased. However, Zendejas was not yet listed as the owner.

Zendejas had been shot multiple times. The father of two had not been seen for two days before his lifeless body was found. However, he was never reported missing. His body was found Saturday, at the corner of Sea Cove Street and Sea Fair Avenue, just a few hundred feet from Seaview Elementary School.

The victim worked at the ARCO AMPM off of Highway 86 in Salton City. Zendejas worked there as a cashier, cook and janitor.

Sgt. Alvarez was not able to comment on a motive. However, he said anyone who is suspected of such a heinous crime must be taken with caution. He urges anyone with information to call him at the Imperial County Sheriff's Office at 760-351-2861.
