Now that lawmakers are closer to passing the health care reform plan backed by President Obama, critics are raising their voices. In a telephone interview with News 11, Arizona Senator Jon Kyl is worried that if the bill gets through it could bankrupt smaller, private insurance companies due to unfair competition from the federal government. Kyl adds the comprehensive reform plan is simply too expensive and will burden many American taxpayers.

News 11 also spoke with Arizona Senator John McCain over the phone. He agrees with his fellow colleague's beliefs about the government's health care bill being too costly, and adds he personally won't stand for it. "There's no way you're going to cut a half trillion dollars out of medicare," Senator McCain said firmly. "You would be depriving people of medicare."

Calls to the Yuma County Democratic Party for comment were not returned on Monday, but as soon as we hear back from a representative we'll be sure to let you hear their side of the story.
