Passport fees are going up so the time to renew is now. A first-time adult passport book currently costs a $100... but that fee is about to jump to $135 -- and renewals are going from &75 to &110. The deputy assistant secretary of state for passport services says the extra money is needed to stay ahead of terrorists.

It will go to new technologies and to cover the costs of fraud prevention initiatives. The changes will likely start in April.
