YUMA — Yuma BMX, with its track located along Pacific Avenue in front of Wal-Mart, raised an estimated $500-$600 Sunday in an effort to combat leukemia.
The local racing organization hosted the special event early that morning with the goal to collect as much support as possible for the Leukemia Foundation. Organizers tell News 11 the American Bicycle Association does this at the national level as well promtping them to race into action, and early indications are the fundraiser was a success.
"We had about 32 riders and it's five dollars for each one. We had a few people raising extra money as well," said Eric Hatcher. "It makes us feel a little bit better knowing we did something to help the community."
