BISBEE, Ariz. (AP) - The Border Patrol has identified the agent who was fatally shot in southern Arizona while working along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Authorities say 30-year-old Nicholas Ivie (EYE'-vee) has worked for the Border Patrol since January 2008 and grew up in Provo, Utah.

They say Ivie and a colleague were on patrol in the desert near Naco - about 100 miles from Tucson - when shooting broke out shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday.

The second agent was shot in the ankle and buttocks, and was airlifted to a hospital. His name hasn't been released yet, but he's reported in stable condition at this time.

It's the first fatal shooting of an agent since a deadly 2010 firefight with Mexican bandits that spawned congressional probes of a botched government gun-smuggling investigation.
