Video report by Milrose Basco

Yet another assault in El Centro. This time suspects beat an 18 year old with baseball bat.

Within the past few weeks the city of El Centro has had four stabbings and now someone getting beaten with a bat. Police say the common thread with these crimes is that the victims aren’t cooperating.

This time the 18 year old victim doesn’t want the suspects to be prosecuted.

"It does become very frustrating when the victims aren’t forthcoming or untruthful at the beginning for whatever reason they may have," said Commander Mike Crankshaw of the El Centro Police Department.

And sometimes Crankshaw says it maybe because they want to take care of it themselves.

"There are people that have gone out and tried to remedy the situation themselves. We certainly discourage that," Crankshaw said.

Crankshaw says the 18 year old was in front of his house at 3 in the morning at Heil avenue in El Centro. Two suspects came up exchanged words and then the fight started and one suspect if not two started beating the victim with a baseball bat.

A neighbor drove the victim to the hospital around the corner.

Hospital staff was the one that called the police regarding the incident.

"At the end of the day the victim is who we’re working for and to keep our community safe so it’s extremely frustrating," Crankshaw said.

The victim was treated and released.

Once again, police need your help and if you have any information regarding these incidents call the police department at (760) 337-4525.
