The Wellton Police Department tells News 11 it is investigating a crash that happened in the Wellton area on October 3, 2012, involving a Border Patrol Agent.

Wellton officers say the preliminary investigation has revealed that two occupants in a golf cart were traveling West in the 28000 Block of Old US Highway 80 when they were struck from behind by Agent Nicholas Ramirez’s vehicle.

The occupants of the golf cart were identified as Charles Logan Keiser and Pedro Noriega Jr. of Wellton, Arizona. Both Keiser and Noriega sustained significant injuries as a result of the collision. Keiser and Noriega were both taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Noriega was later flown to Phoenix due to the extent of his injuries. USBP Agent Ramirez was not injured during the collision.

Lt. Cannon Ball stated, “Due to the significant injuries of the two subjects involved and the extensiveness of the collision scene, we are taking great care in how the investigation is conducted. There are a lot of unknowns at this time that will not come to light immediately and we do not want to jump to conclusions as to what occurred on the night of the collision”.

The investigation is ongoing and the Wellton Police Department has requested the assistance of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office. The Wellton Police Department is also asking that anyone with information regarding the accident contact Sgt. David Rodriguez at 785-4887.
