The man convicted of killing a Yuma man was sentenced to 11 years in prison Friday.

Epitacio Santa Cruz, 30, went before a judge Friday to learn how long he would spend behind bars after he was found guilty of the stabbing death of Victor Parra Lopez, 37,.

Parra Lopez was killed April 20th, 2011. According to court documents Santa Cruz and Parra Lopez got into an argument in the backyard of a home on the 4000 block of west 15th street in Yuma.

Police reports state that that is when Santa Cruz pulled out a knife and stabbed Parra Lopez in his torso and ultimately killing him.

Santa Cruz pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder in a plea deal.

During his sentencing Friday morning the judge sentenced him to serve 11 years in prison.

The judge also ordered Santa Cruz to pay $5,000 in restitution for funeral expenses to Parra Lopez's family.
