The generic brand of a popular cholesterol medicine is being recalled. Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals has voluntarily recalled a generic brand of Pfizer's Lipitor known as Atorvastatin.
The recall of Atorvastatin will temporarily disrupt supplies in the U.S market while the company conducts an investigation. Ranbaxy has not specified a reason at this time for the recall of 10, 20 and 40 milligram doses of the cholesterol fighter.
Lipitor is one of the world's top selling drugs but lost its patent protection nearly a year ago. Ranbaxy was the first company to launch the generic Lipitor in the United States with enormous success.
