Blythe police are searching for Jorge Cazares, 24, of Heber, in a shooting Saturday that left one person dead.

The Riverside County Coroner's Office has identified Terrence Hughes, 24, as the victim.

Detective Robert Dubie with the Blythe Police Department tells News 11 that the crime was drug related.

The shooting happened after the suspect and the victim had a fight over the phone while driving in separate cars.

Dubie says Cazares and Hughes stopped their cars outside the victim's apartment at the corner of N. Palm Dr. and W. Bernard St.

"The suspect got out on the passenger side, ran to the front, and was shooting like from about, probably about 40 feet away, 30, 40 feet away. Several rounds were fired into the residence, the victim's residence, because he was standing out on his front yard," Dubie says.

He says Cazares left the scene, and the driver of the car reported the crime to the Blythe Police Department.

Dubie says police found Hughes with a .25 caliber automatic gun in his back pocket.

"We're not sure of the exact amount of rounds that he was struck with at this time, and possible even self-inflicted wounds by the victim on himself trying to possibly remove a firearm from his back pocket," Dubie says.

Hughes was taken to Palo Verde Hospital and died about two hours after being shot.

Blythe police say they believe Cazares may be in Imperial County or Mexico. Police consider him armed and dangerous.

If you have any information on the case, you are asked to call the Blythe Police Department at (760) 922-6111 or (760) 921-CARE to remain anonymous.
