Researchers looked at screening rates for prostate, breast, colon and cervical cancer between 1997 and 2010.They found the general public did not meet the recommended screening requirements for any disease except colon cancer -- and overall testing rates were down.

They say there could be some confusion over what tests are needed -- recently there have been changes to breast and prostate cancer screening recommendations. They also say fewer Americans are insured, which may lead to a decrease in screening.

Cancer survivors were more likely to be screened, but there was also a decline in testing among that group.
