Yuma Regional Medical Center’s First Baby Born in 2013 (YUMA, Ariz.) While New Years is just another day at Yuma Regional Medical Center, one lucky baby boy will always hold the distinguished honor of being the first baby born at the hospital in 2013. At 8:26 this morning, Evilyna Curiel gave birth to her son Raul, who was born at 19 and a quarter inches, and 6 pounds, 3 ounces. His mother told us that although he was scheduled to be born January 2nd, she is happy that he is a New Year’s baby. “I’m just happy that he was born healthy and happy.” After spending the past four days in the hospital, Curiel believes it was meant to be. “I believe it was meant to happen today, as I had complications the last couple days, and I’m happy,” she said. Kaitlan Schick, who is the corporate communications specialist for the hospital, says the women and children services wing is quite busy when it comes to delivering newborns. “We see on average about 300 babies a month…and we have 5 more in labor at this point today,” she said. Baby Raul has the pleasure of sharing his birthday with noted American patriot Paul Revere, as well as hall of fame baseball slugger Hank Greenberg.
