Hundreds gathered Monday night for a candlelight vigil to honor the life of 17-year-old Martin Garza, who early Sunday morning was stabbed and killed in El Centro in what is believed to be a gang related incident.

It was an emotional night as family, friends, and fellow teammates met at the Warne Field in Brawley. The event began with a prayer, as hundreds of people filled the stands at the stadium. A video slideshow played as those who knew Garza wept in remembrance.

According to family members, Garza was loved by the community. Garza’s teammates spoke at the vigil as well, remembering their beloved friend. El Centro Police say they are getting details on possible suspects.

The family is urging anyone with any information regarding this case to contact the El Centro police department at (760) 352-2111.
