As the president launches the biggest gun control push in generations, local residents are beginning to feel the effects. Local gun stores are running out of ammunition, as gun enthusiasts are picking it up now before it’s too late.

Owning a weapon is a big responsibility, and some residents believe people need to be more aware of the power they have.

“The individuals that are buying guns need to be held more responsible,” says one local. If you have a gun in the house, and you have children, that gun needs to be locked up.”

Part of Obama’s plan is a ban of assault rifles, but defining what an assault rifle is can be different on who you talk to.

One resident believes that any type of gun ban is not the solution.

“I’m a gun owner and just because of that doesn’t mean I’m going to go out and start shooting everybody. There are still responsible people out there, so a ban is not the solution. I own guns, and I’m responsible, and a lot of my friends are too.”

As Washington continues to argue both sides of the case, those who support gun ownership know it really comes down to one thing; being responsible for yourself, and with your weapon.

“I don’t think it’s the guns that are killing people, it’s the dumb people who are not being responsible, and that’s what it boils down to.”
