Calexico Police Chief Jim Neujahr underfire as he gets a vote of no confidence by some police officers on his staff.

It’s the first time a Calexico Police Chief has received this vote.

Ultimately it’s City Manager Oscar Rodrigquez who hires and fires but he does get recommendation from the Mayor and City Council. We made calles to the Mayor and City Manger but our calls were not returned.

For the past 20 years Jim Neujahr has called this city his home and rose in ranks from police officer to sergeant to lietenant and now police chief, always with the goal of protecting and serving.

"Unfortunately I have the distinction of being the only Calexico Police Chief who has ever had a vote of no confidence," Neujahr said.

The Calexico Police Officers' Association President Rudy Alarcon sent neujahr a letter with a list of grievances one being a violation of hiring and promoting practices which is part of a memorandum of understanding.

"To the best of my knowledge and to the best of my idea of what’s going on, I don’t know of any violations of MOU," Neujahr said.

News 11 called Alarcon but he also didn’t return our calls. The letter also says that Neujahr lacks in leadership and poor decision making.

"When I get my 3:00 in the morning phone calls and when I go to work in the morning my full objectibve 100% of the day is to make sure our town is safe," Neujahr said.

In the meantime, Neujahr is going to go about his business trying to protect this city.
