UPDATE: TUESDAY @ 8:30 P.M.

The Yuma Police Department worked in collaboration with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, United States Border Patrol as well as the Customs and Border Protection Air support. A systematic search of the school and the surrounding area was completed and no gun was located.

Once the search was completed, students from Rancho Viejo and Salida Del Sol were transported to H. L. Suverkrup, 1590 S. Avenue C and later reunited with their families. No injuries were reported as a result of the lockdown or evacuation.

Robert Klee, Crane Superintendent during a press briefing said, “I am very pleased with the response of our students and staff at the schools. They followed procedures, everything went smoothly and nobody was harmed. I appreciate the support of our parents during this difficult situation."

The Yuma Police Department said they appreciate the cooperation of all responding law enforcement agencies, the Crane School District, parents and family members for their patience during this trying situation.

UPDATE: TUESDAY @ 3:15 P.M.

H. L. Suverkrup students who ride the bus will be dismissed at 3:20 pm. Walkers and those picked up will be escorted to the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, 4300 W. 16th Street (Mormon Church just west of H. L. Suverkrup) at 3:25pm.

All H. L. Suverkrup students can be picked up at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4300 W. County 9th Street (The Mormon church just west of Suverkrup school).

The lockdown was lifted at Salida Del Sol and the surrounding preschools.

WACOG Preschool and New Beginnings have been given the okay to release students. We will keep you up to date on the latest as more develops.

Yuma police now tell News 11 students from Salida Del Sol will also be bussed to H.L. Suverkrup. They are expecting a delay in the bussing process. We will keep you up to date as soon as we get any new information in.

UPDATE: TUESDAY @ 11:55 A.M.

Yuma police tell News 11 all students at Rancho Viejo Elementary School are now at H.L. Suverkrup Elementary, at 1590 S. Ave. C. and parents can pick them up there. Salida del Sol is still under lockdown.

All parents/guardians who want to get information about the school lockdowns can meet in the cafeteria of H.L. Suverkrup Elementary, at 1590 S. Ave. C.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 10 A.M.

Yuma police tell News 11 several schools are under lockdown Tuesday morning following reports of a young man with a gun on campus.

The Yuma Police Department said it got the call at about 9:55 a.m. Tuesday. Yuma police officers responded to Rancho Viejo Elementary School, at 1020 S. Avenue C, in reference to a young man who may have had a gun.

Several schools were on lockdown as of 10:33 a.m. Tuesday, including Rancho Viejo, Salida Del Sol Elementary School, and WACOG Preschool. The Crane School District has also been informed of the lockdown.

YPD encourages all parents and guardians to please remain away from the schools until police have completed the search and have lifted the lockdown.

Yuma police officers are still on the scene.
