For the first time since 1999, the Arizona Western College athletic department will be adding another team sport under it's athletic program banner. The school has announced that women's soccer will start up this coming fall.
The idea for the inclusion of this team sport first came in 2007 from a poll given by AWC Athletic Director Jerry Smith that prodded the question "Which team sport should the Matadors include next?" According to Matador Athletics, the overwhelming response was women's soccer. Years of budget constraints didn't allow the idea to get off the ground until now.
Current men's soccer coach Kenny Dale will also become the women's coach. Dale plans on starting the recruiting process immediately, with open tryouts that will be scheduled within the next couple of weeks. There will also be an organizational meeting held on campus on Monday night (March 4) at 7 mountain time.
