UPDATE:

Police continue to search for Gary Lynn Smith, a Yuma resident, who is accused of assaulting his girlfriend before forcing her into his vehicle.

The incident occurred near the 1100 block of S. Palm Avenue, at around 11 Saturday morning.

Smith threatened to kill her and others, including himself, before the victim was able to escape from Smith near the 100 block of S. Sixth Avenue with the help of a concerned citizen.

Now police are hoping this citizen can help them track Smith down.

Deputy Roxanne Meyer with the Yuma County Sheriff’s office encourages the unknown witness to come forward.

“The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is asking that the concerned citizen contact them with any information they may have on this case,” she said Monday.

Smith is described as being 5’10”, and about 160 pounds.

He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Law enforcement officials recovered Smith’s vehicle, but still have no information on his whereabouts.

If you have any information on where Smith might be, you are encouraged to contact the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at (928) 783-4427.
