Movies with Mitch

23-year-old Gary Lynn Smith turned himself into Sheriff’s Office investigators Tuesday morning after being on the run from police since Saturday.

Shortly before noon Saturday he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to kill her and others before forcing her into his vehicle near the 1100 block of S. Palm Avenue.

Shortly thereafter the victim was able to escape Smith’s grasp at the 100 block of S. Sixth Avenue with the help of anonymous citizen.

Smith appeared in court with his attorney Tuesday and was read the charges he is facing. He is being held on four felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon, influence on witness testimony, and two counts of kidnapping.

He is being held on $250,000 bail, and will appear back in court Thursday.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for the concerned citizen who helped Smith’s girlfriend escape Saturday, and asks anyone with any information about this individual to contact them at (928) 783-4427.
